Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen made the first supernova discovery for the year 2009 30./31.1.2009 when they observed the supernova SN 2009Q in the galaxy UGC 9982. The brightness of the SN 2009Q was about 17.2 magnitudes when discovered. The confirmation pictures were taken by the Arto Oksanen from the Hankasalmi Observatory and by Hentunen and Nissinen from the Taurus Hill Observatory. This supernova is fifth supernova that has been discovered at Taurus Hill Observatory.
