The autumn season has started with usual rainy weathers but Taurus Hill Observatory’s research team member Veli-Pekka Hentunen managed to measure the light curve of exoplanet KOI127b. KOI127b is one of the exoplanet candidates found by the Kepler-satellite. For the light curve 102 images with 150 seconds exposure time were taken. The star wich expolanet […]

THO research team observed the after glow of the GRB 140215A
Taurus Hill Observatory research team manage to observe the after glow of the gamma ray burst GRB 140215A by using the remote telescope located in Auberry, California, USA. Team observed GRB about 1.5 hours and during that time the after glow dimmed very rapidly from the 17.00V magnitudes to 19.07CR magnitude.
The spectrum of the supernova SN 2014J measured
Taurus Hill Observatory research team measured the spectrum of the supernova SN 2014J. For measurement the THO research team used SBIG STT-8300M -camera, StarAnalyser100 spectrum lattice and Rspec-program. The image shows clearly the typical Ia-type of supernova spectrum, including the Si-II absorbtion line with wavelength of 6100 Angstrom. This is caused by fusion of the […]
Light curve of the exoplanet GJ436b 23./24.1.2014
Veli-Pekka Hentunen from Taurushill Observatory research team managed to measure the light curve of the exoplanet GJ436b 23./24.1.2014. This measurement has been reported to the TRESCA database. Below is the light curve and the direct link to the TRESCA is http://var2.astro.cz/EN/tresca/transit-detail.php?id=1390572602
Supernova SN 2014J photographed at THO
It has been a while since THO research team photographed supernovae. Here is a picture about the supernova SN 2014J, located in M82, taken by Veli-Pekka Hentunen in Taurus Hill Observatory. According to Veli-Pekka’s picture, the brightness of the supernova was about 10,92 magnitudes (CR, comparison star NOMAD1 1596-0106875).
Comet Lovejoy photographed at THO
Lovejoy has been in “shadow” of the comet ISON in media. Still Lovejoy is a very good comet for binocular observations and it is easier to find from the sky at the moment. Veli-Pekka Hentunen from the Taurus Hill Observatory research team managed to take the following photograph from the comet Lovejoy 26.11.2012 about 01:00-02:00 (Finnish time). […]
Exoplanet KOI1540 observed at THO
Observed by Kepler-satellite, but still marked as unconfirmed exoplanet, the KOI1540 was observed at Taurus Hill Observatory 3.-4.10.2013. The transit of the exoplanet last about 154 minutes and it dimmed the brightness of the mother star about 54 mmag. The star that KOI1540 rotates is quite dim, only 15,56 magnitudes. Overall THO research team took […]
Bright fireball photographed.
On Tuesday 10.9. about 02:06 (Finnish time) Taurus Hill Observatory all sky -camera photographed a very bright fireball (meteor). The brightness of the fireball was about same than full Moon has. The fireball exploded and left about 30 degree long “smoke tail” that was visible about 25 minutes after exlosion. At the same night (3:29 […]
GRB130831A observed and photographed at THO.
THO reasearch team managed to observe and photograph the after glow of the GRB 130831A about 7 hours after Swift-telescope discovered it. Markku Nissinen and Harri Vilokki took photos that clearly shows the GRB. The exopsure times were 600 seconds and according the measurements the brightness of the GRB was about 18.01 magnitudes. The measurements […]
Nova Delphini 2013 Observations Summary.
Nova Delphini 2013 was one of the positive surprises of the late summer 2013. The maximum brightness of the nova was about 4 magnitudes and the best thing was that the nova was in very “good position” on the sky here in Finland. THO research team member Jari Juutilainen observed nova several times and here […]
