Taurus Hill Observatory has been awarded a grant of 5,000 euros from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri fund for renewing the telescope stand.

This grant will be used to purchase a new stand for the Meade 12″ LX200 telescope on the public viewing platform of the observatory. The original fork type of stand and its tracking mechanism have functioned unsteadily for almost the entire time the telescope has been in use (20 years). In recent years, the pointing and monitoring of targets has been done manually.

The telescope is installed low, so even people in wheelchairs and small children can view it without hindrance. One of the goals of the viewing platform has been accessibility, and that is why the building has full-size exterior doors and a gentle walkway.

Taurus Hill Observatory is very grateful for the grant received from Jenny and Antti Wihuri’s fund.
