THO research team photographed 144P/Kushida as a first comet of the year 2009. The sky was quite light so the comet wasn’t as visible as in best conditions. The temperature was -9 celsius and the seeing was about 3. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen, Markku Nissinen and Harri Vilokki.
Comet 144P/Kushida was photographed 27.12.2008 at THO after long period of cloudness. Comet had a a brightness of 11 magnitudes.
Comet C/2006 OF2 (Broughton) was quite high from the horizon at the moment of the photographing and therefore a good target for photographing. Despite the comet was quite faint, only 11…12 magnitudes, it had a long tail that is clearly visible in the picture below. Taurus Hill Observatory research team managed to photograph this comet 7./8.10.2008. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and […]
Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 has been getting brighter and brighter lately. Now the comet is about 100 times brighter than in its “dormant state”. At the moment is has a brightness of 11.0 magnitudes. The Taurus Hill Observatory research team photographed the comet 29.9.2008. Observer: Veli-Pekka Hentunen
Taurus Hill Observatory research team members Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen observed comets C/2008 J1 (Boattini) and C/2007 W1 (Boattini) 9./10.8.2008 at Taurus Hill Observatory. Comet C/2008 J1 (Boattini). Comet was near the North Star at the moment of the photographing and it had a brightness of 10,5 magnitudes. Comet C/2007 W1 (Boattini). Comet was visible with the binoculars […]
Comet 46P/Wirtanen was photographed by Markku Nissinen and Veli-Pekka Hentunen 24./25.3.2008 with SkyWatcher 80ED + SkyWatcher EQ5 SynScan and Canon EOS 350D.
Veli-Pekka Hentunen photographed three comets at Taurus Hill Observatory 2./3.3.2008. The weather was quite poor, the mist was present and few times Veli-Pekka has to stop the photographing due the rain. The temperature varied between -6 celcius degree and -10 celsius degree. Observer: Veli-Pekka Hentunen. Comet 46P/Wirtanen: Picture below is combine of 13×60 sec. exposured picture. No filters were used for photographing. The time of photographing was 19:22 […]
Comet 46P/Wirtanen photographed at Taurus Hill Observatory in the evening of 22.2.2008. The full moon made the observation a bit difficult, but still there is a quite bright object in the picture below. At the moment of the photograph the comet was about 28 degrees abowe the horizon. The clear filter was used for photographing and the exposure […]
Comet 8P/Tuttle is rapidly moving down and soon it becames more difficult to observe from northern hemisphere. But still it is very well located quite high in the nighttime sky. We took color pictures of it using Canon EOS 350D DSLR and Optec NextGen 0.5 focal reducer and Meade 12″ telescope. Picture 5/6.1.2008 night: Markku […]
Comets 46P/Wirtanen and 8P/Tuttle were observed at Taurus Hill Observatory 4.1.2008. The exposures in the pictures below were 11×90 sec. (Wirtanen) and 15×20 sec. (Tuttle). The field of view for Wirtanen is about 9×7 arc minutes and for the Tuttle 12×8 arc minutes. The weather was very clear, temperature -12 celcius, seeing about 2 and […]
