Comet 17P/Holmes was photographed 12/13.12.2007 night at THO using Canon EOS 350D camera with 55-200mm lens using Paramount ME tracking system and camera mount made by Hannu Aartolahti. Observers at THO: Markku Nissinen and Veli-Pekka Hentunen.
Three recently found supernovae observed.
We took images of SN2007rt, SN2007rz and SN2007sa. Observers 12/13.12.2007 night at THO: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen.
Supernova SN2007qe.
Supernova SN2007qe’s brightness is about 17 magnitudes. It was found 13.11.2007 by ROTSE and Nearby Supernova Factory. It was observed 23/24.11.2007 at THO. Picture: Veli-Pekka Hentunen.
Comet 8P/Tuttle is gradually brightening.
Comet 8P/Tuttle is gradually brightening. We managed to photograph it after two week cloudy period 19/20 November 2007 at 00:42 – 01:15 local time at THO. It is high in the sky near Polar Star. It has in the picture about 0,5 arc minutes coma and very weak tail structure. We took 12 x 150s […]
Supernovae SN2007oo and SN2007pk
SN2007oo is found by Lick Observatory Supernova Search program at 6th November and SN2007 pk is found by same search program at 10th November. SN2007oo is about 19 magnitudes and SN2007pk is 17 magnitudes. SN2007oo is Ia and SN2007pk is quite rare IIn-pec type supernova. We took CCD-images of supernovae at 19/20 November at THO. […]
Comet 17P/Holmes photographed 4.11.2007 evening.
We photographed comet 17P/Holmes at 4.11.2007 at 18.21 local time at THO. Weather was good, temperature was about -7 Celsius. No clouds. Photograph: Markku Nissinen and Veli-Pekka Hentunen. 12 inch Meade OTA, Paramount ME, 0,5 Optec focal reducer, Canon EOS 350D.
Part of the asteroid 115 Thyra lightcurve measured in Taurus Hill Observatory.
The part of the asteroid 115 Thyra lightcurve was measured in Taurus Hill Observatory in 4/5.11.2007 17:55-21:26 (UT). The total time of the measurements was about 3.5 hours that is little less than half of the overall spin time of the asteroid (7.29 hours). The diameter of the asteroid is about 80 km and it is […]
Dwarf planet Ceres.
Asteroid Ceres has been named as dwarf planet since 2006 IAU naming decision. Ceres is big, 950 km in diameter. It orbits the Sun in asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It was found 1801 by Gieseppe Piazzi. Ceres can contain much water ice, so much even that there is more water in Ceres than […]
Supernova 2007od.
We took CCD images of bright recently found supernova 2007od. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen.
Comet 17P/Holmes has slightly expanded.
The structure of the coma of comet 17P/Holmes has slightly changed since previous observing at 31.10/1.11.2007 night. Photographs are taken using Meade 12 inch Optical Tube + Paramount ME + Optec 0,5X NextGen focal reducer with Canon EOS350D camera. Comet was high on the sky but the weather was not very good, many clouds were […]
