Photographs were taken using Canon EOS 350D camera and Paramount ME tracking system and camera mounting device made by Hannu Aartolahti 1.1./2.1.2008 night at THO. Photographs: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen. 17P/Holmes 8P/Tuttle
Asteroid 76 Freia observed at Taurus Hill Observatory.
The spin time of the asteroid 76 Freia is about 9 h 58 min. Asteroid is quite big, diameter about 184 km. Taurus Hill Observatory research team members Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen measured asteroids light curve about 3 h 30 min. The weather was quite foggy at the beginning of the measurement. The measurements were performed […]
Supernova SN2007ss.
Supernova SN2007ss is imaged using CCD camera 1.1./2.1.2008 night. Image: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen.
Taurus Hill Observatory is participating in OJ287 research.
The team led by professor Mauri Valtonen of Turku University in Finland has weighed the most massive black hole known. Object has mass of 18 billion times the mass of our Sun. It is though six times heavier than previous record. Details of this were presented at the 211th meeting of the American Astronomical Society (AAS) […]
Mars photographed using web-camera
We took images using web-camera 12/22.12.2007 night using 12″ Meade and Philips ToUCam Pro II web-camera. Weather conditions were not very good, atmosphere was quite unstable. Observers: Harri Haukka, Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen. CM = 187
HAT-P-3b exoplanet observed at Taurus Hill Observatory.
Taurus Hill Observatory research team observed the extrasolar planet HAT-P-3b transit at THO 21./22.12.07. The weather conditions were poor at the end of the measurements and team managed to measure half of the whole transit (2 hours in total). The Moon was very bright and there were some clouds also. Still, the begin of the […]
8P/Tuttle observations continued at Taurus Hill Observatory.
Comet 8P/Tuttle is so bright that it is very visible in the picture below, despite the Moon that was very near at the moment of the photographing. Observatorys research team photographed the picture below 21./22.12.07 21:13-21:29 finnish time. The temperature was +2 celcius and the weather was very wet. Seeing was also quite poor. Observers: […]
8P/Tuttle observed at Taurus Hill Observatory.
The comet 8P/Tuttle, which is the source comet for Ursids, has been observed at Taurus Hill Obsevatory 18./19.12.2007 21:29 – 22:05 (finnish time). Despite the half moon and the small fog, the comet was also easily observed with binoculars. The pictures below are taken with the observatorys SBIG ST8-XME CCD -camera and the exposures were 12×60 sec. and […]
Supernova SN2007so.
We observed supernova SN2007so and took CCD images of it 18/19.12.2007 night at THO. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen. SN2007so had been found 13.12.2007 by Lick Observatory Supernova Search program. It is about 17 mag type Ia supernova in galaxy NGC 1109.
Comet 17P/Holmes is still very bright object.
Comet 17P/Holmes was photographed 16.12.2007 evening at THO. Picture was taken using camera mount made by Hannu Aartolahti and Paramount ME tracking system with Canon EOS 350D camera at 200mm lens setting. Picture: Markku Nissinen / THO Observing Team.
