Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 photographed
Comet 29P/Schwassmann-Wachmann 1 has been getting brighter and brighter lately. Now the comet is about 100 times brighter than in its “dormant state”. At the moment is has a brightness of 11.0 magnitudes. The Taurus Hill Observatory research team photographed the comet 29.9.2008. Observer: Veli-Pekka Hentunen
Observations about the supernova SN2008fv before and after.
Taurus Hill Observatory research team photographed the supernova SN2008fv 28./29.9.2008 at THO. The supernova is discovered by the Koichi Itagaki and it is located in galaxy NGC 3147. The same galaxy was photographed at the THO 21./22.9.2008, but that time the supernova wasn’t visible. The supernova SN 2008fb is about 15.6R magnitude bright in these […]
Taurus Hill Observatory received a grant from the Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation.
Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation granted a 5000 euros grant for the Taurus Hill Observatory for the equipment of the secont observatory building. The grant was announced 9.10.2008, which is the birthday of the maritime counsellor Antti Wihuri (1883-1962). Taurus Hill Observatory and Warkauden Kassiopeia (the owner organizaion of the observatory) wants to give thanks for […]
New supernova discovery made at THO!
Taurus Hill Observatory research team members Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen photographed galaxy UGC 2813 24./25.8.2008 and they saw from the raw pictures that there was a new clear star like object in the edge of the galaxy. Veli-Pekka and Markku measured the brightness and the location of the object. The early results indicated that […]
Supernovae SN2008eo and SN2008er.
After rainy evening (12./13.8.2008), the research team managed to photograph two supernovae. These were SN2008eo and SN2008er. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen.
Taurus Hill Observatory in regional TV news.
Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen from the research team of the Taurus Hill Observatory were interviewed by the TV news reporter 12.8.2008 for East Finland regional news. The subject was supernovae and especially the supernova searching. The interview lasted about 2 min. 30 sec. so it was a quite long time for a short TV […]
Comets C/2008 J1 (Boattini) and C/2007 W1 (Boattini) photographed at THO.
Taurus Hill Observatory research team members Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen observed comets C/2008 J1 (Boattini) and C/2007 W1 (Boattini) 9./10.8.2008 at Taurus Hill Observatory. Comet C/2008 J1 (Boattini). Comet was near the North Star at the moment of the photographing and it had a brightness of 10,5 magnitudes. Comet C/2007 W1 (Boattini). Comet was visible with the binoculars […]
