Taurus Hill Observatory’s research team member Veli-Pekka Hentunen measured the light curves of the exoplanets XO-2b and GJ436b at Taurus Hill Observatory 22./23.4.2008. Veli-Pekka used photometric R-filter and 50 sec. exposure times for both measurements. The weather was quite good, only the full moon shined low in the southern sky. Due this, and the shorter night […]
Taurus Hill Observatory’s mesurements as part of the OJ 287 Nature -article.
Taurus Hill Observatory’s research team members Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen made photometric observations about the blazar OJ 287 over one year for the research team that is led by the professor Mauri Valtonen from the Tuorla Observatory, Turku. Now there is an article about the results of the OJ 287 research campaign in the the well recognized science […]
SN2008bo has brightened.
After quite long cloudy period we succeeded to image SN2008bo at THO 12/13.4.2008 night. We measured the magnitude of SN2008bo 15.9R. We also imaged SN2008bn, which we measured as magnitude 16.5R. Observers: Markku Nissinen and Olli Rantula.
SN2008bo in colours.
SN2008bo colour picture was photographed by using the photometric filters. The picture below is combined in MaximDL by the 5×300 sec. L, 5×300 sec. R, 3×300 sec. V and 4×300 sec. B exposured individual pictures. The measured brightness of the supernova was mag. 16.4 R. The comparison star that was used was USNO A2.0 catalog star 1575-03944894. The […]
New supernova, SN2008bo, discovered at Taurus Hill Observatory (updated 3.4.).
Taurus Hill Observatory continued the supernova search program with great success. Research team members Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen photograhed galaxy NGC 6643 (about 78 bly from the Earth) 31.3/1.4.2008 at Taurus Hill Observatory. First look to the picture revealed the “new star” in the galaxy. The picture was taken with the clear filter and 90 sec. exposure time. […]
HAT-7-Pb exoplanet light curve partly measured..
Exoplanet HAT-7-Pb (GSC 3547-1402) has been discovered 2008. Veli-Pekka Hentunen at Taurus Hill Observatory’s research team managed to measure part of the exoplanets light curve 31.3./1.4.2008. In Veli-Pekka’s light curve the second half of the transit is visible. The whole transit last about two hours. The brightness variation due the transit is about 7 – 8 mmag., and this […]
Third observation about the exoplanet TrES-2b.
Exoplanet TrES-2b is an “old friend” for Taurus Hill Observatory’s research team. Last time the light curve of the TrES-2b was measured in February 2008. This time the reserach team managed to measure the whole light curve. There seems to be a minor rise in the first half of the light curve and might be an indicator of […]
Supernovae SN2008bi, SN2008bj and SN2008bl.
Three recently discovered supernovae has been photographed 28.3.2008 at Taurus Hill Observatory by Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen. The weather was quite good. Temperature was about -5 celsius degrees. SN2008bi discoveder 22.3.2008 (CHASE). This is a type Ia supernova. Brigthness is about 15,9 magnitudes. SN2008bj discovered 12.3.2008 (ROTSE). This supernova is type II. The brightness oh the supernova was about 17,1 magnitudes. SN2008bl […]
Comet 46P/Wirtanen photographed at Taurus Hill Observatory.
Comet 46P/Wirtanen was photographed by Markku Nissinen and Veli-Pekka Hentunen 24./25.3.2008 with SkyWatcher 80ED + SkyWatcher EQ5 SynScan and Canon EOS 350D.
Asteroid 6 Hebe photographed at THO.
Asteroid 6 Hebe is large asteroid that has dimensions of 205x185x170 km. Hebe was discovered by the Karl Ludwig Hencke in the year 1847. Hebe has a revolution time of 7.3 hours. THO research team photographed the Hebe with 90 sec. exposure times four times during the 28 minutes observing session. Due this time the Hebe seems […]
