Asteroid 7 Iris was photographed in Taurus Hill Observatory 27./28.11.2006 by Markku Nissinen and Veli-Pekka Hentunen. The asteroid is now about 7,2 magnitude bright object and it is 130 million kilometers away from the Earth. This picture is taken with clear filter and 15 sec. exposure. (Tämä uutinen suomeksi)

4P/Faye photographed again in THO.
Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen photographed again comet 4P/Faye in 16./17.11.2006 (21:45-22:16 finnish time). The comet is about 9.5 magnitude object and it is possible to observe visually even with small telescopes. In this CCD -picture, you can see a dim tail of the comet. At the time this picture was taken, the comet was low in […]
Comet C/2006 L1 (Garradd) observed in Taurus Hill Observatory.
We observed comet C/2006 L1 (Garradd) in Taurus Hill Observatory. The sky was very bright due the Moon. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen. (Tämä uutinen suomeksi)
WASP-2b exoplanet observed in THO.
We observed WASP-2b exoplanet transit first time in Taurus Hill Observatory Varkaus, early in the evening (17.00-19.30 Finnish time) in the 3th of November. We detected that the central time of the transit was accurately as in prediction. The object was about 30 degrees above the horizon in the southern sky. We used GSC522-780 (C1) and GSC52-452 as check […]
C/2006 M4 (Swan) comet observed in THO.
C/2006 M4 (Swan) comet was observed 29.10/30.10.2006. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen, Hannu Aartolahti and Markku Nissinen. Following picture is taken using Canon EOS-350D camera. 30s exposure ISO 1600. Picture is cropped from larger picture. (Tämä uutinen suomeksi)
TrES-1b transit measured in Taurus Hill Observatory.
TrES-1b transit has been measured again. Last time it was photographed and measured was in spring 2006. Unfortunately, this time we didn’t got the transit completely. The transit happened at the the it was predicted. Weather was clear and the temperature was -6 celcius. Only problem was the humidity that was about 91%. We used R -filter […]
C/2006 M4 (SWAN) observed in Taurus Hill Observatory.
Veli-Pekka Hentunen, Hannu Aartolahti and Markku Nissinen observed and photographed the C/2006 M4 (SWAN) -comet in Taurus Hill Observatory 29./30.10.2006. The comet was photographed with observatory’s 12″ Meade S-C, Paramount ME -mount and SBIG ST-8XME -CCD camera. This picture is combined by four 30 sec. esposured individual picture. You can see the plasma and dust […]
WASP-1b transit observed in THO
WASP-1b transit pictures were taken with SBIG ST-8XME CCD -camera and R -filter. The exposures were 90 s per picture and the time used for transit photographing was 7 hours. The transit last about three hours as predicted and when predicted. Weather was not as ideal as wanted. There were some clouds in the sky. Due these […]
Comets SWAN (C/2006 M4) and Levy (P/2006 T1) photographed in THO.
Veli-Pekka Hentunen photographed SWAN (C/2006 M4) -comet and Levy (P/2006 T1) -comet in Taurus Hill Observatory 19./20.10.2006. SWAN was quite bright (about 5.5 magn.) but Levy was only 9.5 magnitude object. The weather was quite poor due the clouds. Also it was near sunrise and due that the sky was also a bit light. The […]
