Research team member Veli-Pekka Hentunen measured the lightcurves of the HAT-P-3b and TrES-2b 26./27.2.2008 at Taurus Hill Observatory. He used clear filter for both measurement and the exposure times were 90 sec. The weather was quite foggy and the objects were quite low in the norhtern sky (about 20 to 30 degrees). The unfavourable seeing […]

Comet Wirtanen photographed by the Veli-Pekka Hentunen.
Comet 46P/Wirtanen photographed at Taurus Hill Observatory in the evening of 22.2.2008. The full moon made the observation a bit difficult, but still there is a quite bright object in the picture below. At the moment of the photograph the comet was about 28 degrees abowe the horizon. The clear filter was used for photographing and the exposure […]
Asteroid 369 Aeria measured at Taurus Hill Observatory.
Asteroid 369 Aeria is an asteroid that has a diameter about 60 km. It has about 4.787 hour revolution time. Veli-Pekka Hentunen measured asteroids lightcurve 5 hours 18 minutes at Taurus Hill Obsevatory 22./23.2.2008 21:41-02:59 (UT). Veli-Pekka used 120 sec. exposure times and a photometric filter R. The comparison star was star 0249301245 (C1) from the GSC1.2 catalog. The check star […]
Orion Nebula Messier 42.
After long cloudy period it was clear weather 15/16.2.2008 night. I photographed the central parts of Messier 42 using 12 inch Meade and Canon EOS 350D. In the second image also M43 is visible above the M42. Photographs: Markku Nissinen.
Asteroid 2007 TU24 photographed at Taurus Hill observatory (updated 31.1.08).
Asteroid 2007 TU24 passed the Earth in the morning of the 29.1.2008 and at the nearest point it was about 540 000 km away from the Earth. Veli-Pekka Hentunen managed to photograph the asteroid one day later (because the morning of the 29.1. was too cloudy for photographing) 30.1. 03:06-03:45 (finnish time). The exposures that were used […]
Color picture of 8P/Tuttle.
Comet 8P/Tuttle is rapidly moving down and soon it becames more difficult to observe from northern hemisphere. But still it is very well located quite high in the nighttime sky. We took color pictures of it using Canon EOS 350D DSLR and Optec NextGen 0.5 focal reducer and Meade 12″ telescope. Picture 5/6.1.2008 night: Markku […]
Asteroid 49 Doris observed at Taurus Hill Observatory.
Asteroid 49 Doris is a very large object. It has a diameter of 222 km and the rotation time is about 11,9 hours. At time of the measurements that were made 5./6.1.2008 at THO, the asteroid Doris was in the Lion constellation. The purpose was to measure the half of the light curve, but due […]
Supernova SN2007sr.
After long asteroid 48 Doris light curve measurement we took CCD image of southernly bright supernova SN2007sr, which is in NGC 4038, Antennae galaxy. It was only about 6 degrees above horizon when we took the picture. Observers: Veli-Pekka Hentunen and Markku Nissinen at 5/6.1.2008 night / morning just before sunrise.
Comets 46P/Wirtanen and 8P/Tuttle observed at Taurus Hill Observatory 4.1.2008.
Comets 46P/Wirtanen and 8P/Tuttle were observed at Taurus Hill Observatory 4.1.2008. The exposures in the pictures below were 11×90 sec. (Wirtanen) and 15×20 sec. (Tuttle). The field of view for Wirtanen is about 9×7 arc minutes and for the Tuttle 12×8 arc minutes. The weather was very clear, temperature -12 celcius, seeing about 2 and […]
Comets 8P/Tuttle and 46P/Wirtanen observed 1.1.2008 at Taurus Hill Observatory.
Comet 8P/Tuttle was observed at THO 1.1.2008. The exposures in the picture below are 15×30 sec. and the field of view is about 12×10 arc minutes. The star just abowe the comet is GSC 1749-1022 and it has a brightness of 11.5 magnitudes. Research team also obseved the comet 46P/Wirtanen (found by the finnish related Carl Wirtanen, […]
